This role sits at the heart of academic journal operations, driving the growth, quality, and timely publication of scholarly content across a global publishing environment. You will be responsible for managing end-to-end editorial workflows, ensuring smooth peer review processes, and maintaining strong relationships with authors, editors, and reviewers worldwide. The position blends editorial operations, stakeholder coordination, and research integrity oversight, requiring both precision and strong communication skills. You will also contribute to improving journal performance by identifying process gaps and implementing operational enhancements. Working closely with international teams across time zones, you will help ensure high standards of academic publishing while supporting journal growth objectives. This is a highly collaborative role where editorial expertise and operational discipline directly shape the quality of published research.
Accountabilities:
- Manage the end-to-end administrative and operational processes of academic journals through manuscript tracking systems, ensuring smooth peer review workflows.
- Execute advanced article processing and peer review tasks, including reviewer selection, editorial checks, and decision support.
- Maintain strong communication and working relationships with authors, editors, reviewers, and internal global publishing teams.
- Supervise and support 1–2 peer review associates, ensuring workload balance, performance alignment, and professional development.
- Monitor manuscript progress across review stages, ensuring timely handling, quality control, and adherence to journal standards.
- Support research integrity by applying ethical guidelines, identifying potential issues, and escalating complex cases when required.
- Collaborate with editorial, production, and marketing teams to support journal growth and operational efficiency.
- Identify process improvement opportunities and contribute to strategies that enhance turnaround times and publication quality.
- Troubleshoot journal system or workflow issues and ensure effective resolution in coordination with stakeholders.
- Ensure consistent documentation, reporting, and adherence to publishing policies and best practices.
- Master’s degree required; PhD preferred or equivalent academic background.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills suitable for global stakeholder interaction.
- Prior experience in academic publishing, peer review operations, or journal management is highly desirable.
- Good understanding of peer review workflows, editorial decision-making, and research publication standards.
- Proficiency in MS Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and reporting tools.
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail and ability to manage multiple workflows simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with diverse stakeholders in a professional and diplomatic manner.
- Experience in mentoring, coaching, or supervising junior team members is an advantage.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to handle complex or sensitive editorial situations calmly.
- Familiarity with research integrity standards and publishing ethics is a plus.
